I bet you’ve heard the saying “if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.” This saying rings true, especially when dealing in construction. Many free estimates from companies are half-truth and half-hope. They provide an estimate for the absolute minimum a house of your caliber would cost (half-truth). So each time the homeowner adds an outlet or upgrade the actual cost and free estimate are no longer in sync. They seldom take into account specifics and hope the client doesn’t mind the change order, which can sometimes be in the neighborhood of $10,000+ above and beyond the original estimate (half-hope).
This is where Carey Contracting does things differently. For every remodel we do an initial walk through. This is where you tell us everything you want us to touch and talk about your vision for the space as well as the budget. From there we provide a detailed, itemized estimate. We call around and get prices and quotes for your specific home. Our designer/estimator also discusses the materials and appliances and fixtures you would like to see in your home and base the finishing portion of the estimate based on your vision for the space. If you prefer the best of the best appliances and floor coverings these are the prices you’ll see in your estimate. If you prefer standard appliances and quality in-stock floor coverings that is what will be in your estimate. Every project is different there is no one size fits all in construction; so why would we estimate like there was?
When working with Carey Contracting, you expect the product we put in your home to last as long as the craftsmanship and service that were provided. We only use products we know are durable and that will last for the long haul. These products tend to be more expensive and long out last their cheaper counterparts. Why would you settle for a less than quality product when you’ve spent so much to make your home the best it can be? That being said, we also understand budgets; which is why we’re willing to shop around and help you select what works best for your home without compromising on quality.
Our crews are thoroughly trained. We hold regular training sessions for various projects in our office; recently we held a roofing session and window session. We hire various companies that specialize in these areas to come to our office and show our entire crew. We feel everyone has something to learn from these sessions. The experienced crew members may learn an easier way of doing something, while the new guys get to learn from the beginning! We also use best practice when using a new product. We actually contact the company that makes the product and directly ask them for appropriate ways to use their product. For instance, if we’re able to attach a specific hanger to sheet metal siding or if its only for use with vinyl siding.
Our crews also regularly attend certification classes for Lead Safety and CPR, First Aid, and AED (defibrillator) training. We also do a Tool Box Talk at the start of every job. All crew members who will be working on site meet with the project manager and discuss various safety situations that may occur. If electrical is a concern they talk about all ways electrocution can be prevented. They also discuss trip hazards, slip and fall hazards, the importance of cleaning up after yourselves. This is a great way to make sure safety is top of mind on every job site.
Carey Contracting crews are no stranger to problem solving and unusual projects. We thrive in the challenge of a complex project or finding the solution to a brain tingling problem. Working out the angles and numbers for a complex decking system is something we enjoy and gives us a great sense of accomplishment once the problem is solved. We love getting assigned to unusual projects.A few of the more interesting projects we’ve been on include a propane explosion (the ends of the home blew out the like an exploded pop can) and frozen pipes caused by a deer breaking and entering.
Added cost doesn’t always mean expensive. With Carey Contracting what you get is added value; our estimation process is proven—no surprises, no hidden costs. You can bet the quality products combined with our quality service, craftsmanship, and well-trained crews will provide you with a beautiful home for years to come. Do you know the real cost of a home renovation? I’m sure you’ve done some research; maybe taken a few trips around various stores pricing out products maybe even had a construction company come in and provide you with one of their free estimates. Have you called their references? Checked into their license and insurance? Are they equipped, certified, or have a plan in place to handle common occurrences in construction such as lead or mold? Do your research. You want the best of the best because you expect the best.
