"Having a house fire is a major life event. In the thrust of the disaster, you are faced with so many decisions and issues at one time. The emotions run from getting the task at hand of re-grouping your life – finding a place to live, settling your family in temporary quarters and dealing with the trauma, maintaining your work schedule and demands, contacting the insurance company and beginning what will likely be a six month to one year process of restoring your home and your possessions, the list goes on. Faced with those overwhelming decisions one at a time let alone all at once is at the core of determining what outside restoration process will best meet your needs. In our recent August 2006 house fire, we quickly had to evaluate next steps. Those steps included securing our house and preventing further damage, getting any personal or valuable items protected from our household contents, and figuring out how we were going to have the insurance process proceed and what contractors we would use. We quickly identified that locally there are very few companies with the experience, expertise, and ability to perform this function on an overall basis. Carey Contracting and ServiceMASTER offered us that solution. They were able to secure the premise, make sure no additional damage was occurring, and very handily took control of the direction of the insurance process. They are equipped with the ability to take the situation and not only manage it but direct the process. This from our experience provides immediate representation with the insurance company. Many people in their delay to determine what they are going to do and getting the data to arrive and rebuild, refurbish, or take a cash settlement give up their authority to their insurance company because they simply don’t understand the process. This did not happen here. Carey’s expertise and professionalism aligned our insurance adjusters function with our desires with a proactive third party (Carey) marshalling the process. Carey Contracting worked closely with our insurance company to determine appropriate replacement cost and damages within weeks of our loss. That allowed construction to begin nearly immediately, resulted in us getting the repair/replacement cost of our home that we had coming to us and getting us back into our house as quickly as possible. The selection of subcontractors and the bidding process resulted in the best possible home restoration we could have imagined. We are convinced that being a general contractor out of necessity for yourself in this area would have been piecemeal – not only in the time personally you would have to dedicate, but you would be in way over your head. Whether a fire or a voluntary restoration project, you are taking on a very complex and lengthy process with a significant amount of money being spent. Doing it right the first time and qualifying your outside professionals is essential to a success project. Our experience from beginning to end with Carey was positive. They work in a win-win manner and do a top rate job."

We all were so worried about her and the decisions after the smoke damage–-and she is so happy with everything. Thank you all so very much. You're the best!"

My gf and I recently had Carey Contracting do an extensive bathroom/laundry room remodel. They were top notch - professional, offered good, clear communication, were quick, did good work, and were fair priced. They used (with necessary modification) our plans which required demolition, reframing, insulation, replacing and rerouting plumbing, electrical, window(s) installation, tiling, paneling and trim work. They also installed a non-standard door in our old log home. Some of this work required subcontractors, who despite one hiccup, performed well. I had previously contacted three smaller area contractors, none of who could even be bothered to return my calls and/or provide an estimate until a "week or so". One contractor even indicated he would not bid on the job if we pursued a competitive bidding process. One call to Carey and we had a walkthrough of the potential remodel area the next day, and a estimate the following week. Approximately six weeks after the start of the demolition we now have a brand new bathroom that is not only highly functional but beautiful.

It is also very important to mention what a great job (your employee) did, during the construction phase he was available to answer questions and help out wherever he could. The quality of the end product is excellent... I would also like to compliment you on your office staff, any time I have called either looking for someone or with a question they have always been professional and courteous. I would like to send this letter of reference for Carey Contracting. I am an interior designer in New York and have worked with Carey Contracting on renovating two cottages in Florence, Wisconsin, of which one of them was used for a photo shoot in the July issue of House Beautiful. My comments regarding Carey Contracting can be summed up into one word: "Impeccable." They are very professional and easy to work with; if all contractors were like that, it would make my job so much easier. They made our entire renovation run smoothly and I highly recommend them!

"Several months have passed since the bathroom project was completed. We are writing to express our delight in the outcome and to thank you for all that you and your people did to make our dream a reality. What began as a vague idea on our part was transformed, through all of you, into something far better than we could have foreseen originally. "You patiently walked us through the project, answering our questions, offering suggestions, matching our vision with professionals who understood what we were trying to accomplish. Everyone of the sub-contractors demonstrated the same commitment to craftmanship that your own staff showed on a daily basis. "In particular, we would like to single out Roger and Robert for the extraordinary job they did. They threw themselves into our projects as if it was the most important job they had to do. They harvested old millwork, wrestled with crooked floors and ceilings, created new-to-match-old, and dealt with the irregularities of an older house with the same sensitivity we would have employed if we knew how. Their attention to detail, their thoughtfulness, their pleasant manner and their joy in what they do was amazing to behold! "Having photographs of our project on your web site has proved to be very helpful to us in sharing the work with our out-of-town family and friends. However, those who have now seen it in person almost always say that the actual work is far better than the photographs show. "We are completely satisfied and delighted with the work you have done and we gladly commend you whenever the opportunity arises to do so. We look forward to calling upon you in the future."

“(We) have been building or remodeling for the past 30 years, everything from homes to having an intimate involvement in the construction and design of casino hotels. It didn’t take me long to develop the attitude that I would rather get a nasty case of the measles than work with the people in construction. I developed a working theory that the construction industry attracted all the misfits of society that this HAD to explain the poor working habits, poor communication skills and just plain awful personality characteristics of the construction industry on the whole. And, so, I didn’t expect anything different, truthfully, when we hired Carey Contracting to handle the small remodel job in our home. I simply prepared for the tug and pull to begin. However, now that the project is finished, I think I am still in a state of shock with regard to how well this project was executed by you and your team. When (your employees) left for the last time, I said to myself, “Yes, Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus…” From the day we met with you, to (your employees’) last day, everything went exactly as planned. Mike, I appreciated the intuitiveness and suggestions you gave us as we discussed how to proceed. I appreciated (your employee’s) initial coordination of design layout, purchasing and follow through with the budget and timeline. (Your employees) showed up every day on schedule. And, we knew that (your employee) was in the background ensuring that the details were taken care of behind the scenes. I must tell you that (your employees) were a delight to work with. They cleaned up every day before they left and they were very concerned about keeping the dust out of the rest of the house. They listened well and helped us brainstorm the little wrinkles and deviations that generally occur in any construction project. As you have probably surmised by now, (my husband) is Attila the Hun around construction projects and gives “perfectionism” a whole new definition. He built an entire house by himself once, including wiring, plumbing, roofing, etc. But, (your employees) survived him quite well! When (my husband) told me that (your employee) taught him a thing or two about how to hang a door, I was amazed. Way to go, this was a first! But, it all starts at the top. Once, when I complimented them, they referred to you and said that you train your people well by effectively communicating your expectations to your construction crews. It is clear to me that all those who work for you, not only like working for you, but also respect your leadership. That, then, filters down to those of us on the receiving end of your products and services, and it is we who benefit. Thank you for allowing (us) to use your shop garage to verathane what I swear was a million linear feet of wood (no one can tell me any differently, either). I was over that project after the first day – big time. But, your staff, led by (your wife), made us feel warmly welcome, frequently offering coffee and keeping the garage warm while we worked. We also appreciate the fact that your subs obviously respect and like working for Carey Contracting, because they showed up when expected. Amazing! Thanks for helping us better prepare our place for sale. We would – and do – heartily recommend you to anyone who wants to build a quality project on time and on budget.”

We were pleased with the work coordination between your company and Klema Decorating, who also does excellent work. To your valued employees, we say "Thank you for a job well done"!

"I am pleased to provide you with this letter of reference for your exclusive use. Carey Contracting was the low bidder on the Terminal Renovation and Expansion project at the Ford Airport in Kingsford Michigan. The project as bid was over the Architects budget and through extensive negotiations the project was modified to meet the available funding. Through these negotiations, your firm provided excellent cooperation and solid advice where reductions in cost could be made without major reductions in the overall project scope. As the project proceeded, again with your cooperation and advice, we made further adjustments to the project scope to enhance the overall project appearance and efficiency. As any remodeling project proceeds, unknown conditions at the time of bidding occurs, and your firm provided reasonable alternatives to resolving these problems at a fair price to the owner. In summary, your firm provided excellent leadership and fair pricing for all changes which made this project run very smoothly while maintaining on time scheduling and overall project budgets. We are happy to recommend your firm to any of your future clients."

"As a Consulting Engineer in the area of Building Design and Construction Inspection, I have had the opportunity to observe construction practices and quality of construction of several contractors in Dickinson County and Northern Wisconsin. Carey Contracting being one of those contractors. In 2005 and 2006, Carey Contracting was awarded a contract with the First National Bank of Norway to construct an addition to their Branch Office in Iron Mountain...My experience with this contractor was nothing short of very good. They delivered a quality product in compliance with the plans and specification in a timely manner and within budget. A very important aspect to the success of this project was the open line of communication and cooperation on behalf of the contractor. Project schedules, change orders, plan interpretations, materals and project related problems were discussed on a daily basis with management and staff. Required paperwork was always submitted on time and staff was always available to assist with any conerns of the project. Based on my experience, Carey Contracting comes highly recommended and would be an asset on any type of building or renovation project."

"I am writing this letter in regards to Carey Contracting. The Hermansville Housing Commission hired Carey Contracting to put an addition onto our public housing project in Hermansville. I would not hesitate to hire Carey Contracting again, they were a very nice firm to work for and I had no problems with any of their workers. The workers did an excellent job and completed the job on time. The paper work was always here on time and there was never a problem with work or with communication. When choosing a construction firm, Carey Contracting would always be my first choice.

"Carey Contracting, Inc. was the contractor for Era Chevrolet, a new building designed by this firm (SEH). Carey successfully negotiated the contract to within the owner's budget. By suggesting reasonable alternatives, the owner was able to make informed decisions to reduce the initial cost of the project. Carey Contracting fulfilled their obligations under the contract, coordinating multiple subcontractors and suppliers. The superintendent and project manager cooperated with the owner's needs, and compiled with the intent of the contract documents. With few exceptions, we were pleased with the quality of the work on this project."
