President
Mike Carey, a lifelong resident of the Iron Mountain area, founded Carey Contracting in 1986. With over 30 years of experience, Mike leads a dedicated team in providing exceptional design/build services, commercial construction, major renovations, handyman services, insurance claim repairs, and kitchen and bathroom remodeling to homeowners and businesses. Quality workmanship, technical creativity, peerless design, and a high degree of old-fashioned customer service are the hallmarks of a Carey Contracting renovation.
Mike began learning his chosen craft at a young age. He counts his grandfather — a carpenter, and Gus Newberg — a commercial contractor Mike knew while growing up, as influential role models. With a growing interest in building and design, Mike earned degrees in construction management and alternative energies. After college, he gained over a decade of contracting experience. Then, in 1986, Mike decided to launch Carey Contracting. “I had an entrepreneurial spirit from 12 years old,” Mike explained.
For over 20 years, Carey Contracting has helped residents and business owners build and renovate many of the properties found in the region. But Mike is also proud that he’s led Carey Contracting in integrating mission work into their business. Carey Contracting has been involved in a number of projects that have benefited people in the regional community, as well as the nation and world.
Mike, a proud “fifth-generation Yooper,” hopes to continue serving his community through Carey Contracting for years to come.
Mike and his wife, Colleen, have four children. In their spare time, the family can be found “in the woods,” said Mike, “enjoying many of the outdoor activities the U.P. has to offer.”
